I have an interesting experience to relate to you that happened to me last week. After a gig had finished, I was packing up and the person who had arranged it came over to me and asked if instead of paying by card or cash he could pay by silver bullion?
I’ve never been asked that before, you? I looked down at the collection of silver Britannia’s he was holding in his hand and thought, why the hell not!
Now, each coin is valued at roughly £30 by current estimates, so I came out of it a little worse off than if I had accepted bank transfer, but the feeling of ounces of pure silver in one’s hand is worth it. It’s like I could literally weigh up the exchange for my time and efforts with a valuable metal.
So, yesterday I had a day booked at a studio, working on recording a piece of mine for solo acoustic guitar and at the end of the day, I offered to pay in silver bullion. What do you think was the response? ‘Cool! That’s great’.
So, now I am going to accept metals as payment for lessons and performances and start to offer payment by that method to others too. Why not? What a civilized way of doing business.
